UK succumbs..Good Xmas news for Nigerians in UK..

A month after it suspended flights between Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and London- Heathrow Airport, ArikAir is set to resume operations by December 12, this year.

According to the airline's Chairman, Sir Joseph Arumemi-Ikhide,this stems from the positive and favourable outcome of negotiations between the United Kingdom and the Federal Governments on the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA).

He explained that it has been agreed that Arik will receive two additional weekly slots at Heathrow Terminal 4 in order to operate a daily flight on theAbuja-London-Heathrow route compared to five times weekly that the airline had operated from November 2009 until last month when it suspended operations due to some extraneous factors.

The increased frequency on the route, 　he said, 　means Nigeria is operating 14 of its 21 agreed frequencies between the two countries.

The airline will operate a daily flight between the two capitals, complementing its daily Lagos-London, Heathrow service. This would bring Arik's total flight frequencies between Nigeria and the UK to 14 per week.

PATRICE O'NEAL Dead at 41

Comedian Patrice O'Neal died Tuesday morning ... as a result of a stroke he suffered back in October ... this according to his friends at the "Opie and Anthony" radio show.

O'Neal had been a staple in the comedy world for years -- and performed at the "Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen" back in September.

O'Neal was a regular guest on the "Opie and Anthony" radio show -- and appeared on several TV shows such as "Chappelle Show," "The Office," and "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn."

Opie just tweeted, "Yes it's true that our pal Patrice O'Neal has passed away. The funniest and best thinker I've ever known PERIOD."

Michael Jackson's Doctor Conrad Murray Sentenced to Four Years In Prison

Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray was sentenced to four years in prison today for involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death.
Judge Michael Pastor called Murray's treatment of Jackson a "cycle of horrible medicine" and "medicine madness."
Jackson's parents and siblings Jermaine, LaToya and Randy were present at today's sentencing, but did not speak, instead allowing family friend and attorney Brian Panish to read a statement on behalf of the Jackson's three children and family.
In the statement, Michael Jackson's children told the Los Angeles court that they lost their "father, best friend, and playmate" when the singer died, but stressed they were not seeking "revenge".
The statement asked the judge to "impose a sentence that reminds physicians they cannot sell their services to the highest bidder."
"As Michael's parents, we never imagined we would live to witness his passing," Panish read, on behalf of the singer's parents Katherine and Joe Jackson. "There is no way to describe the loss of our beloved brother, son, father and friend."

Ethiopians dominate 2011 Obudu Mountain Race

Ethiopian male runners on Monday made a clean sweep of medals and top cash prizes at the 7th edition of the Obudu International Mountain Race.
For the third year running, Ethiopia has won the gold, but this time it was through 22 year old Mesfin Hunegnaewai who brushed aside the challenge of 50 other male runners and crossed the finishing line in a record time of 41.50.


His compatriots Atsedy Tsegay and Azmeraw Beke came second and third to win silver and bronze with the time of 42.12 minutes and 42.30 minutes respectively.
In the female category the Ethiopians also dominated winning the gold and silver while Kenya won the bronze.
For this category, it was 18 years old Yalew Genet of Ethiopia who came first after outrunning 34 others to win the gold with the time of 48.45 minutes while Ayelewu Wuda Yimer also of Ethiopia placed second to win the silver by returning a time of 49.10 minutes to beat Margaret Wangari of Kenya who placed third to win the bronze.

Award winning veteran director, Tunde Kelani has finally released the trailer of his latest movie – MAAMi.The trailer gives viewers a little of what to expect when the movie finally hits the big screen – beautiful shots, great soundtrack, and of course, brilliant directing.
The much anticipated movie is scheduled to hit Nigerian cinemas, come February 2012.
MAAMi is the inspiring story of a poor conscientious single mother’s struggle to raise her only child Kashimawo, who, eventually, rises to international stardom in an English football club, Arsenal, and becomes a national hero.
Adapted by Tunde Babalola, from Femi Osofisan’s novel, of the same name, this film is about love, perseverance, and fate. The movie unfolds though Kashimawo’s reminiscences of his hardscrabble childhood in the southern Nigerian town, Abeokuta. The movie stars Funke Akindele, Wole Ojo, Tamilore Kuboye, Ayomide Abati. There are special guest appearances by Yinka Davies, Kayode Balogun, Olumide Bakare, Fatai Rolling Dollar, and Biodun Kupoluyi.

2011 Star Mega Jam Concert Cancelled

The 2011 edition of the annual Nigerian Breweries sponsored musical concert, Star Mega Jam has been cancelled. According to a press statement signed by the organiser's Corporate Affairs Adviser, Yusuf Ageni, the concert was cancelled because some logistic challenges could not be overcome.
"The annual music concert, Star Mega Jam, will not take place this year," Ageni's statement reads. "The company regrets all inconveniences this will cause the fans, who have been eagerly awaiting this year's edition of Star Mega Jam."
Star Mega Jam, an annual concert usually headlined by an international act started in 2000 with Awilo Logomba. Other international acts that have performed at the concert over the years include Shaggy, Usher Raymond, Koffi Olumide, Ja Rule, Kevin Little, LL Cool J, Akon, Kanye West, T-Pain, Nas, Nelly, Busta rhymes, Ludacris and most recently R.Kelly
This will be the second major annual entertainment event to be cancelled this year after reports revealed that the Sound City Music Video Awards will not hold this year too.

Court asks NDLEA to pay Baba Suwe N25m compensation!!!

Justice Yetunde Idowu of the Ikeja High Court,  Thursday,  asked the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA,  to pay Nigerian comedy actor, Babatunde Omidina, commonly called Baba Suwe, N25 million  as compensation for unlawful detention and breach of his human right.

Baba Suwe who was granted bail November 4, had gone to court to seek redress over an alleged suspicion of ingesting substances believed to be hard drug and detention in the custody of NDLEA for 24 days.

Justice Idowu also asked the NDLEA to publicly apologise  to the comedian  through two national dailies within 21 days.

I hope they will pay him oooooo

Kristina Rei, 22, was convinced her thin lips made her ugly so she opted to have them enlarged in the style of her favourite cartoon character, at a cost of more than £4,000.
Now the nail technician admits she has an addiction, but still plans to have her so-called trout pout made even more outrageous.
Each injection costs roughly £40 and is 'extremely painful' but Kristina, from St Petersburg, Russia, insists nothing will stop her.

'I flew to see my fiance at the last minute': Jennifer Hudson on the twist of fate that saved her on the day her family were murdered

Jennifer Hudson has revealed that going to see her fiance fight in a wrestling match may have saved her life and kept her out of the house on the day her family were slaughtered.
The Oscar-winner was in Florida on October 24, 2008 when her mother and brother were killed in their Chicago home.
Her seven-year-old nephew Julian King was reported missing but was found dead three days later.
In a stunning admission the 30-year-old says she too could have been a victim of the murders.
Instead she was with David Otunga who was fighting in a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) match.
'That's one of the things that saved my life,' Hudson, 30, tells Ebony magazine.
'Because I could have been home with my mum then.
'He wanted me to come out to Florida with him instead of going to Chicago.
'I flew out to see him; that's why I'm still here.
'I've never said that before, and I can't believe I just said that now. But I didn't know.
'He was just like: "I'm going to this wrestling thing and it's in Tampa. I'm going out there now, so you can come out there and see me versus going home".'
While she was in Florida her mother Darnell Donerson, 57, and her brother Jason, 29, were brutally murdered.
William Balfour - the estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia - has been charged with the murders.

Along with taking out the rubbish, one of the traditional 'men's jobs' around the home has always been standing on a chair and unscrewing old lightbulbs and replacing them with fresh ones.
But new technology from Samsung might make the chore a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Samsung's new range of LED bulbs have a lifespan of 40,000 hours - 40 times a standard incandescent bulb.
The company calculates that with normal use, the bulbs should last for 36 years.
'Samsung is now using it's expertise in digital electronics to revolutionize the lighting industry,' says the company. 
Samsung is a world leader in 'LED' TVs - actually LCD panels which are lit by a panel of LEDs behind the screen.
LED lights are becoming increasingly common, and generally offer a fairly long lifespan, but even so, 36 years is something of an eye-opener.
'A light bulb is no longer just a light bulb. It's a digital technology made up of LED chips, drivers and electronics - familiar turf for Samsung,' says Kevin Dexter, Samsung's senior VP of home appliances.

Prada advert starring Oscar-nominated child actress Hailee Steinfeld BANNED for use of 'dangerous image

The Prada fashion giant has been censured over the use of ‘dangerous’ images featuring Oscar nominated child actress Hailee Steinfeld.
An advertisement for the label’s Miu Miu range showed the 14-year-old sitting alone and apparently upset and crying on a railway track.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received a complaint that it was ‘irresponsible’ because it was suggestive of youth suicide...Fell in love with both comments below.

Personally I find it weird that she (a child) is modelling adult clothing, never mind the train tracks!

If the ad campaign was aimed at adult women the why are they using a child model. Prada new exactly what they were portraying. To suggest otherwise when they were "outted" is an insult to our intelligence.

Turkish President's wife turns up at the Queens Palace in a pair of killer heels

One always hopes one’s guests will be comfortable. But sometimes they don’t do themselves any favours. As the Queen greeted the first lady of Turkey yesterday, she couldn’t help an admonishing glance at her guest’s six-inch platform shoes.

Hayrunnisa Gul, wife of Turkey’s president, tottered gingerly on to the red carpet as she and her husband arrived for lunch at Buckingham Palace. The Queen, in her usual sensible court shoes, appeared somewhat taken aback by her glamorous guest’s footwear.

Nicki Minaj Named Billboard's 'Rising Star' for 2011

Nicki Minaj has been named Billboard's "Rising Star" for 2011, capping off a year that has seen the hip-hop star top the charts with her massive-selling "Pink Friday" album and, most recently, earn a pair of trophies at the American Music Awards.      
     The Rising Star Award acknowledges Minaj's phenomenal year and will be presented at the Billboard Women in Music Event on Dec. 2 in New York City.

Minaj will be joined at the sixth annual event by Billboard Woman of the Year Taylor Swift, her friend and an early booster through radio interviews and a widely seen concert cameo.

"I am deeply honored to be recognized by Billboard," says Minaj. "My nation of barbz and I have come a mighty long way; yet we are nowhere close to where God will take us. Sit back and enjoy the ride."

This is a story about a wedding that took place recently. It was a huge wedding with over 300 guests. After the wedding at the reception, the groom got up on stage and took the microphone to talk to the crowd. He said he wanted to thank everyone for coming, many from long distances, to support them at their wedding. He especially wanted to thank the bride’s and groom’s families for coming and to thank his new father-in-law for providing such a fabulous reception. To thank everyone for coming and bringing gifts and everything, he said he wanted to give everyone a special gift from just him. Taped to the bottom of everyone’s chair (even the chairs of the wedding party) was a manila envelope.
