EFCC Arrest Currency Courier In Lagos Trying to Export $7million Dollars Cash

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arrested one Abubakar Tijani Sheriff, whom it described as a bulk currency smuggler, as he attempted to smuggle $7million out of the country.

The EFCC said in a statement today that Sheriff, 24, was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos en route Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as he boarded his flight.

Following his arrest, he declared that he had a total sum of $4.5million on him but thorough screening and search showed that he was actually carrying $7,049,444, the commission said.  Sheriff then confessed that he was a courier for 20 individuals who hired him to courier the money for them to Dubai.

Every year, Simi Osomo (in the picture above) makes six trips to London from Nigeria. The 25-year-old spends about two weeks here and every day she goes shopping. Today she’s at the boutique shop Matches Townhouse in Marylebone with a personal shopper. “When it comes to shopping and Nigerians, I can tell you it’s just what we have to do,” she tells me while admiring the patterned dresses.

For Nigerians, London is a shopping mecca. Meet The World's Poorest President

President of Uruguay, José Mujica is getting world wide recognition and respect for donating 90 percent of his earnings to charitable causes. He has earned what most people would call an enviable reputation as the “poorest,” or the “most generous,” president in the world. His nickname, “el presidente mas pobre” translates to “poorest president”. 

The President said in a recent interview that the only big item he owns is his Volkswagen Beetle car, valued at $1,945 dollars (about N308,283) . He earns a salary of $12,500 a month (N1,981,250), but only keeps $1,250(N198,125) for himself, donating the rest to charity.  He lives in a farmhouse which is under his wife’s name, Lucía Topolansky, a Senator, who also donates part of her salary.

BREAKING NEWS: Qatar Airline Prepares For Emergency Landing As Tires Burst Mid Air

A Qatar Airways flight en route from Doha is to make an emergency landing at the Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos after encountering problems with its tyres, an airport official said.

"They had a problem with their tyres," Harold Demuren, head of Nigeria's civil aviation authority, told AFP of the passenger plane. "We are ready for them," he said, adding that emergency personnel had been put on standby.

The airline's website showed flight QR592, which Demuren said was an Airbus A330, was due to land in Lagos at around 1:00 pm local time (1200 GMT).

It was flying the regular Doha-Lagos route, but had reported the problem to Nigerian airport authorities, Demuren said.- AFP

Arik Air Bans 27 people From Using their flight to any of their destinations

Arik Air on  Tuesday released a list of persons banned permanently from taking any of its operated flights to any destination. Top on the list was the Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mr George Uriesi. The reasons given for the ban range from fighting Arik staff, disrupting Arik flight operations, to being declared wanted by security agencies.
Other people blacklisted include Omojuwa Japhet, Victor Ogbondah, Lawal Lateef, Obayomi Osoba, Obiriki James, Guanah Raymos, a Somalian, Warsame Amed Abdulkair, a Sudanese, Abdel Rahman, Wala Eldin and Orji Daniel Ikechukwu, Grace Nkiruka Guobadia, Adesanya David, Uzoh Hilman, Davis Fasan Adesola, Musa Azeez Arisekola and others.

Patience Jonathan Suffering From Parkinson’s Disease

Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, is battling an onset of Parkinson’s disease that has complicated her recovery from a surgical procedure in Germany, several reliable sources have disclosed. Mrs. Jonathan was flown to a hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany close to a month ago to undergo emergency treatment after a botched procedure in Dubai.

In an interviews with three sources familiar with Mrs. Jonathan’s health status, it was learnt that the Nigerian president’s wife is beset by Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative syndrome. The disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system. A medical source described it as “a fairly common disorder that occasions degeneration of the nervous system.” The source added that the disease leads to “progressive impairment and disorder of movement.” An online medical site notes that Parkinson’s “is characterized by progressive loss of muscle control, which leads to trembling of the limbs and head while at rest, stiffness, slowness, and impaired balance. African Man Tries To Sneak Into Spain Disguised As A CAR SEAT

The illegal immigrant was busted trying to enter Spain despite his best efforts of pretending to be a car seat. Vigilant police caught the 20-year-old man from Guinea attempting to sneak into the Spanish enclave of Melilla from Morocco over the Beni-Enzar crossing.

He was hidden inside a Renault 7's passenger seat, with the co-driver sat on top of him. The insides of the seat had been discarded, leaving only the frame which he slid into. Guardia Civil officers had to help the man out of his hiding place, later describing his attempt to pass undetected as 'unique and innovative'.

The two Moroccan men, aged 21 and 23, who allegedly tried to smuggle him across the border were arrested and will appear before a court accused of people smuggling later this week. The man was also detained and will appeared before a judge.

Daniel Kwaku Nyaatse, 9, killed himself by committing suicide at Adabraka in Accra, Ghana. Speaking to reporters, Millicent, the boys mother said; "there was nothing wrong with him as at yesterday, We woke up this morning to find Kwaku hanging on a rope in front of our house."

"There was no indication he was suffering from any abuse or had been bullied at any point in time while in school", she lamented.

PHOTOS of the Damage Caused By Flooded River Niger In Lokoja

The flooding started about two weeks ago after Cameroon released water from the Lagdo Dam.

The minister of works said that the level of water seen in the past two weeks has not been seen in the last 100 years. The flooding is virtually cutting off the Northern part of the country from the South. A lot of small villages in Lokoja and Kogi will soon be wiped out if nothing is done soon. The flooding has left many dead, thousands homeless, and movement from one place to the other impossible.

The Federal Ministry of works announced this evening that they will open the Lokoja-Abuja road tomorrow, and will monitor the situation to see if there's any need to close it again...Meanwhile alternative routes are being created. Continue to see more photos

Chelsea captain John Terry, has announced a shock retirement from international football, with immediate effect. The England defender, is clearly not pleased with the FA’s stance on his case of race abuse with Anton Ferdinand. Kanye West sex tape with Kim Kardashian lookalike leaks

The nearly 20-minute-long recording is believed to have been shot with an unidentified female who is a 'dead ringer' for Kim herself, RadarOnline.com reports.  She adds: 'My husband and I don't have sex anymore... that's why I'm here!' Filmed in what appears to be a hotel room, the married woman reportedly confirms at the start of the tape that she's over the age of 18 and fully consenting. According to the US gossip site, the mystery woman is a Kim lookalike with a curvaceous figure and long dark hair. Radar maintains to have seen the steamy tape in full and claim they can verify 'without a doubt' that it is the 35-year-old rapper in the video.

Throughout the romp, the pair allegedly don't kiss or interact in any way apart from trying out various positions. The man who appears to be Kanye is said to be aware he is being filmed because he not only set up the camera, but also looks directly into the device at the end of the video.  According to an industry insider, the tape was shot shortly before Kanye officially got together with Kim in March, and he is said to be 'terrified' about the video being leaked.  A source claimed to Radar: 'The sex tape is being shopped right now and there's a lot of interest, but Kanye is freaking out!

Gaga smelled it to confirm it was in fact weed and soon after lit a joint and took a few hits. She assured the crowd that she didn’t do enough to get her totally baked.

She then went on to crediting “wondrous marijuana” for cutting back on drinking and giving her a spiritual experience when it come to her music. Arik Air Leaves Passengers Stranded, Suspends All Flights

Arik Air this morning suspended all its flights out of Lagos, leaving most passengers stranded at the airport. Am one of their passengers, and this is the text they sent me:

 ''Due to persistent hostility of the Ministry of Aviation and FAAN management, which has culminated in the use of FAAN staff to stop our operations and lock in checked-in passengers in Lagos this morning, Arik Air has no option than to suspend all domestic This issue bothers on personal interests and not payment of bills, since FAAN has been collecting their charges in advance since 18 months now. Arik Air regrets the inconveniences this disruption by FAAN would cause you. Thank you for your much valued"

VIDEO: Dangote Speaks To Forbes Magazine on the Inspiration behind his philanthropic side

Aliko Dangote is the richest man in Nigeria and Africa, but in the past, part of the criticism against him was that he made so much money and gave so little back to society. They compared him with some of the world’s great models in philanthropy like America’s Bill Gates and Warren Buffett and expressed a desire to see Dangote’s more altruistic side.

Dangote has been doing just that recently. Following the wave of violence which swept through the North of Nigeria in the aftermath of the 2011 elections, Dangote gave the displaced $600 (about N100,000) each. He’s given away millions to education, health and social causes.

Nowadays, he counts those same names he had been frequently compared with —Bill Gates and Warren Buffett— as the inspiration behind his decision to step up his giving and making it public.

Nigerian Fraudster Couple Exposed By American Media

A minicab driver who claimed he was earning just £700 a month but was living a luxury of life in his Nigerian mansion, has been ordered to pay almost £1.2million. Ovo Mayomi and his wife Juliet Ubiribo were convicted of fraud in 2010 after using an identity and immigration scam to falsely claim £43,000 in benefits. 

Mayomi, 44, claimed he was earning £700 a month and was living in Croydon, south London, while his wife, 32, claimed benefits after telling benefit bosses she was a single mother and a victim of domestic violence. But fraud investigators found Mayomi and his wife were actually living in a large luxurious house in Lekki Lagos worth more than £1million complete with chandeliers and £89,000 worth of sound equipment.
